New EVP Network News

Telemundo today announced it has named Luis Fernández its new EVP of network news, reporting to network president Luis Silberwass. Fernández replaces Luis Carlos Vélez who will join Telemundo News’ existing talent team as a news anchor and senior correspondent.

Fernández will oversee the network news operations and manage editorial direction, programming and production of all news properties at the network that’s part of NBCUniversal, a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation. Fernández also will oversee other related network news programming, breaking news and specials. Additionally, he will oversee collaborations with Telemundo’s owned and operated stations, and leveraging the relationship with NBC News.

Fernandez previously had been President of Entertainment at Univision, which he joined in 2009, and President of Univision Studios. Most recently, Fernández was CEO of Real Madrid for the Asia Pacific Region in Beijing, China. Fernández, who holds a degree in Journalism from Universidad Complutense of Madrid, previously was CEO of Radio Television Española (RTVE), News Director at Canal +; News Director of Telecinco; and News Director at Cadena SER, the main radio network in Spain.

Luis Carlos Vélez joined Telemundo News in 2015 as Executive Vice President of Network News. Before joining Telemundo, he was anchor and news director in Caracol Television in Colombia. Prior to that, Luis Carlos was an anchor and reporter for CNN International based in New York and an anchor for CNN en Español.
